St. Andrew – Windfields
St. Andrew-Windfields, is part of the prestigious Bayview Ave/York Mills neighbourhood in Toronto, was named after one of Canada’s most famous residents who resided on Bayview Ave—Edward Plunket Taylor (1901-1989) or simply E. P. Taylor. He was Canada’s foremost business tycoon and a racehorse breeder who bred Northern Dancer—the greatest stallion of the 20th century.
E. P. Taylor started in the brewery business, which then grew to be the world’s largest brewing company. After World War II he founded the Argus Corporation and later gained control of the country’s greatest companies such as Dominion Stores, Canadian Food Products, Massey-Harris, Standard Broadcasting and Hollinger Mines Limited just to name a few. He also pioneered the concept of gated communities in exotic places by founding the highly exclusive Lyford Cay Club in the Bahamas. Being very involved in horse racing he became the world’s leading horse breeder by money won. He was the most influential thoroughbred breeder and owner in thoroughbred racing of today. His estate home is still located on 2489 Bayview Ave, which, during his time was frequently visited by the Royal Family.
